"Do zip blinds stop rain?" is the most common question we get. Here's an honest answer.
What zip blinds do well
Side-retained zip blinds keep the fabric edge in a track on both sides, so the screen stays taut and greatly reduces heat, glare, wind and wind-driven rain. For most balconies they make the space usable in the afternoon sun and during typical showers.
What to expect in heavy, wind-driven rain
No zip blind is fully watertight in every storm. In strong wind-driven rain some moisture can enter at edges. We match the fabric openness and detailing to your exposure, and recommend raising the blind in stormy, high-wind conditions.
Fabric openness options
- 0–1% blackout — most privacy and shade
- 5% — balanced everyday choice
- 10% — more airflow and view
- ~30% insect screen — maximum ventilation
